With a stellar record of academic accomplishment, Laura Dick contributes a sound and comprehensive approach not only to background research, but the subsequent multi-varied assessments required for the wide range of clients served by Brown Economic Consulting Inc.
Laura developed a talented aptitude for strategic logical analysis through advanced courses in economics and mathematics; in addition, she also honed teamwork skills through group work in courses she excelled in for her minor degree specialization in Management & Society.
During her postgraduate studies, Laura was particularly interested in statistical analysis, regulatory economics, game theory and the history of economics. In 2003 she received the Professor Z.M. Kubinski Prize in Economics for a research paper on the deregulation of the electricity industry in Alberta.
Prior to joining BEC, Laura was a merchandise planner at the Forzani Group Ltd. where she helped create financial plans for sporting goods for two of the Forzani corporate banners. Through these responsibilities, she gained experience in collecting and analyzing data that assisted in projecting sales trends, as well as margin and inventory targets for selling seasons. During this employment, she also completed the JDA Arthur Planning Administration course.
Previous experience as a data-entry clerk and telephone interviewer for market research surveys has given Laura superior listening skills, and valuable professional and personable communication skills that serve her well in liaisons with BEC’s stakeholders.
In addition to the Kubinski Prize, Laura’s academic achievements include: Faculty of Social Sciences Dean’s List (1999-2003); the University of Calgary Undergraduate Merit Award (2002); the Dr. Lawrence Copithorne Memorial Scholarship (2002) and the Jason Lang Scholarship (2000 & 2002).
Laura believes that BEC’s customized approach to clients will reduce the financial impact of any incidents experienced by giving the best possible indication of their losses through rigorous and realistic assessments.
